Mosaic Cat (MaoMao) from Shanghai Workshops

Mosaic Cat (aka. Maomao) is a rope artist & educator in Shanghai, China. She has taught over 500 students & done 100+ performances in ropes.

She will give two workshops- one intermediate and one advanced. You may take one or both with a discount.

Intermediate workshop is 1PM-4PM

  • Five Flower Tie: Bidirectional Rope Control & Dynamic Tension Flow- Introduces the Chinese "Five Flower Tie" approach, emphasizing symmetrical structure building, dual-direction rope control, and dynamic tension adjustment during movement and play.

  • Minimal Predicament Rope — "Two Ropes Are More Than Enough"- A minimalist predicament-focused floor play class using only 1-2 ropes to create secure and psychologically engaging restraint structures. Designed for bedroom play, non-suspension environments, and connective tension play.

Dinner break (snacks and small dishes provided)

Advanced workshop is 5PM-8PM

  •   Rhythm & Scene Composition in Rope Performance- A performance-focused class on pacing, emotional rhythm, audience engagement, and scene construction drawn from Maomao's experience performing over 100 rope scenes internationally.

Artistic Statement

Mosaic Cat (Maomao) began her Shibari journey in Taiwan in 2017. She immersing herself in both classical Japanese traditions and contemporary European techniques under Maya, Soa, and Kobayashi Nawagiri. Her practice combines both classical Japanese-inspired kinbaku and contemporary European rope approaches.

After returning to Shanghai in 2019, she became an active force in the rope community, organizing workshops, curating events, and nurturing a growing network of rope practitioners. To date, she has taught over 500 students and performed in more than 100 Shibari shows. She has also been invited by the German rope education organization Karada House for online teaching and performance collaborations.

Her style is marked by precision, versatility, and a drive for continuous innovation.

Seamlessly blending rope with narrative, experimental performance, and installation art, Maomao ensures that each of her presentations delivers something new, challenging expectations and expanding the possibilities of rope as an artisti nedium. Beyond performance, she creates rope-based installations an hotographic artworks that have been exhibited in cities throughout China, as well a n Germany and the UK. Her artistic voice navigates a compelling space between tradition and experimentation, offering work that is both rooted and radically original.
